Greetings all! We are a young couple, each 34-years-old who are in the rather nasty situation of being forced to live apart from each other by the United States government! I (the husband) am a US citizen, she is not. This situation results from her being a former J-1 exchange student visa holder which comes with a Dept. of State mandated 2 year ‘homestay’ after completing the program. We will go into detail about this in the blog as time goes on, so stop by and find another reason to be mad at our frequently incompetent elected officials and the bureaucracies they create and maintain ‘for the good of the country’…
The main reason behind this effort, however, is to share some of the things we do as a couple to keep in touch, stay positive, and maintain that togetherness we adore – even across ‘the big pond’ called the Atlantic Ocean.
2 year timeframe started: June 18, 2009
2 cumulative years will be up on: July 3, 2011* (can we all say ‘ouch!’ together?)
* Total time outside home country so far: 15 days; so 2 years plus 15 days is 3 July 2011.
